The assembly of this product is very difficult. The instructions in English do not clearly direct you how to build it. The picture on the box are unclear and reviews on Amazon are different than the product sold. I am very dissatisfied with this product and it was a waste of money since I can’t even use it. Don’t waste ur money.

I set up this UV light/filter to spray water sideways and create turbulence as the pic shows. I tried straight down but it produced a lot of bubbles and the fish were thrown around by it. I have small fish so this isn't terribly difficult to do.My tank is a couple of weeks old, so is still being cycled. It was getting green when I put this in and in 24hrs the green was clearing up. Picture shows the tank after 24hrs. It was a lot greener than that before the UV light was installed.Tips:There is a timer on the cord. The LEDS produce a combination so you know if its on/off or on a timer. When I first put it in, the pump turned on, but the UV lamp was off. Needless to say, this made no different to the tank water. So I worked that out and turned on the UV lamp and in 24hrs the water cleared up noticeably. There are no real instructions on how to connect the little fittings. But a bit of trial and error gets you there quickly as do the pictures in the manual.I'm quite pleased with it. It got rid of a green tank issue for me pretty quickly but mine also just started to go green. It might take longer if yours's is in full bloom.I'll be moving it to a far corner as it is quite large and blocks the view where I put it. Something to consider if you have a small tank. So far its working out great.

This device seems to me to be missing a very key design element. Right now the design has the UV light bulb surrounded by the bio sponge media. In theory, this utilizes the space effectively and provides a two-in-one solution to both filtering and sterilizing the water passing through the filter. However, remember that you are trying to promote beneficial bacteria to live in the sponge to be able to provide biological filtration. Because there is no barrier blocking the light from the UV bulb from also hitting the surrounding sponge, this means you are effectively zapping your good bacteria along with everything else the UV light impacts. So I am left in a dilemma: do I use this as a UV sterilizer or as a biological filter? I had hoped to be able to use this as the sole filter in my quarantine tank, but now I have to consider keeping an additional filter or somehow figuring out how to shield the sponge material from the UV light. I believe the company also sells a filter like this design but without the UV light. If you like this design but want biological filtration, I would recommend getting that design instead and look for an alternative UV light.Another thing to note is that if the GPH rate is 170, there is no way that this device would be sufficient as a stand-alone filter for any tank larger than roughly 40 gallons (allowing for a 4 times-an-hour turnover rate). Keep in mind also that this device is almost 13" long and nearly 3" wide. This makes placement in smaller tanks a challenge. The device does have a very nice construction. It feels quite sturdy with each part of the barrel twisting off without too much force so my weak hands were able to open it, but I have no worries about it falling apart in the tank. I love that this came with the rain bar attachment. There are also a bunch of other accessory parts that I still haven't quite figured out all of them yet.Overall, I think this device missed the mark. It tried to tackle too many things at once without proper consideration of each function overlapping with the others. For the size of the device, it also needs a stronger pump to justify putting it into a larger aquarium without supplemental filtration.
