I’ve been a longtime fan of Kokuyo products. I used to buy their A4-size loose-leaf paper because I love the smooth texture and the subtle guide lines—it made writing so enjoyable. The only downside was struggling to find binders that fit the paper properly. So when I saw Kokuyo started offering products in standard U.S. sizes, I was thrilled! I’m really hoping they’ll release a spiral notebook and a composition notebook with graph paper soon. I know they’ve already introduced some amazing college-ruled options, which I absolutely love. I can’t wait to see what else is coming in the U.S. collection!

I am a stationery nut and have a number of pencils and pens and am always on the lookout for new paper to test. Kokuyo is a well-known Japanese stationery brand, so I was excited to order this paper. It came in a 5-pack with 100 sheets each. As soon as you take the paper out, you can feel the difference. It is quite smooth and has a remarkable texture, like glass. However, it does not appear to have any coating on the paper, or if there is a coating making it smooth, it is a great coating. I must say, this paper works best with pencils. As can be seen in my picture, the 8B pencil is quite dark. Really pops off the page. Even my firmest Blackwing pencil has only a minor tremor of feenback, more like a 2H hardness. Then there is a red marking pencil, that writes more like a crayon, so there is some drag but no mess. Like I said, a great paper. The rest of the writing are different Asian and European nibs and inks on the paper. Wetter inks do much better on this paper, my one really dry ink seemed to skip and have a bit of a flow issue with this paper. Everything else worked great, even very wet inks. Best of all, no bleed through whatsoever! Ballpoints and rollerballs all glided across the paper. I am quite happy with this paper, would give it 6 stars if I could! Am going to use it for ink testing and swatching and for special projects.

I really like this paper. It's heavy enough that ink won't bleed through (you might see a faint image but no actual bleed through) and it's very smooth. One caveat- that smoothness means that it won't "grab" a lot of lead from your pencil so you might need to press a little harder. The graph lines are right on the edge being hard to see but you'll get accustomed to that but it makes it GREAT for seeing the lines that YOU'VE drawn and that's a big thing for making your graphs legible. Right now, I use it to draw quilt blocks and garden layouts but I'll be taking Economics in the fall and this will make it a little easier. In addition, it's almost 8.5x11 and that makes it fit in with my other lined paper and it has a little extra room. There's enough paper in this package to go through grad school or to share with classmates and that makes it an excellent value.

I love Kokuyo stationery. I've had really high quality notebooks and planners made by them, and this graph paper is no exception. Extremely smooth texture, but not a light or smeary experience like weatherproof-style smooth paper. Very pleasant writing experience with a variety of tools: pencil, ballpoint, gel, fountain. One of the perks of paper with less "tooth" is erasing; an eraser doesn't absolutely shred the paper or even disrupt the very delicate graph grid underneath. And the grid on this paper is indeed very fine; not too blue or too thick. I wish this paper had been available when I was in school. Also, this is a tremendous value for such high quality paper! I highly recommend Kokuyo paper for anyone who is particular about their writing experience/writing tools.

You really can't go wrong with this paper. I am a dedicated fountain pen user, only using other writing implements when I absolutely have to, and the best thing about this paper is that it handles fountain pen ink splendidly! The fact that it's graph paper means that I can do math with a fountain pen or use it to keep track of my work on logic puzzles. It fits in standard 8.5"x11" binders, and comes hole-punched, which is super convenient. I love this paper!
