My review assesses the performance of an ORICO 256GB 2230 M.2 SSD with 3D TLC NAND, PCIe Gen3 x4 interface, and advertised sequential read/write speeds of 2500MB/s and 1900MB/s respectively. The SSD was tested in a Dockcase Pocket hard disk case connected to an MSI-PRO-Z790-A-WIFI motherboard with an Intel i9-12900K CPU and 64GB of RAM.Performance:Sequential Speeds: The SSD generally met the advertised sequential read/write speeds in the AS SSD Benchmark, demonstrating good performance for everyday tasks and moderate gaming needs.Random Performance: Random read/write speeds were also decent, although they may not be as impressive as higher-end NVMe drives.4K Performance: 4K read/write speeds are crucial for system responsiveness and application loading times. The SSD showed solid performance in this area, contributing to a snappy user experience.Installation and Compatibility:Easy Installation: The M.2 form factor allows for easy installation in compatible devices.Compatibility: The SSD is compatible with PCIe Gen3 x4 slots and should work with most modern motherboards or enclosures.Build Quality and Reliability:3-Year Warranty: The 3-year manufacturer warranty provides some peace of mind regarding the product's reliability.3D TLC NAND: While 3D TLC NAND is generally more affordable than higher-end technologies like 3D QLC or MLC, although it may have slightly lower endurance and slightly slower speeds.Overall:The ORICO 256GB 2230 M.2 SSD offers a decent balance of performance and affordability. It's suitable for users who need a reliable and relatively fast storage solution for everyday tasks, light gaming, and general computing needs - and did I say that it's REALLY small?
