Purchased 2 - within 6 months the bearing on 1 began making grinding noise. The other would occasionally grind momentarily. After disassembly, the fan that was consistently noisy had what appeared to be sand or some other rust-colored grit on the fan shaft. It was mostly dry. I cleaned the shaft and applied high performance grease (Lubriplate SFL-0) and reassembled. Running quiet for now, we'll see how it holds up.Did the same maintenance to the other fan. Now I notice the CPU cooler fan (Also a thermalright fan) making noise.Good air flow and quiet, until the bearing lubricant wears out. I'm not sure what they used for lube - whether it's some type of generic oil or grease, or if there is graphite (giving the sandy-grainy texture). I think if they use a more durable grease, the fans will be great. It could also be that the components are unbalanced, causing premature wear. The fan comes apart easily - no screws or clips. The fan blades pop off of the motor by gently pressing the blades from behind and wiggling it until it pops off. The only moving part is between the shaft and the bearing. The bearing itself does not actually rotate or move.

I've had these less than a year in one of my servers, and they are already rubbing at any RPM over 30% duty cycle.Paying double for noctua seems like it would have been the better idea at this point.

The short course screws that came with the fan could not be used with installation due to the fan design. I had to cut threads into the heat sink with the longer fine thread screws in order to get the fan to mount onto the the board.

Bought for a server computer, I liked that they were quiet, which they are. But after 3 months, one of the bearings is wearing out and rubbing and squeaking already. They might be fine in a computer or other appliances that don't run constantly all the time, but in a server that's running 24/7, it broke pretty quickly. Will be replacing them with Noctua fans one at a time as they wear out.
