If you can't figure out how to get the built in LED light to work either, the little black strip on the front under the screen: That's a touch sensitive brightness slider. Took me forever to figure this out. The additional light provided is kind of jerky, it basically clamps onto the end of the scope. But it clamps on pretty well, and the added light is helpful sometimes, but in other cases it's nice to be able to remove it. The magnification and autofocus are great. Sometimes if your hands are moving around the autofocus is a bit annoying. I found myself often using autofocus to get to a specific focal distance, and then I'd disable the auto focus to prevent it constantly adjusting. This scope helped me solder a 31 pin ribbon connector onto a board where I can barely control my very sharp pointy multimeter tips enough to prevent shorting while testing the connection points. In other words very small.

I hate to say it, but this thing is bad. Not terrible. The autofocus feature is very useful and good. The camera quality is excellent. The screen image is very good. Even the mat they give you is excellent. So I did enjoy using it, but not a value for the money at all. For something of this caliber, I would expect much better engineering and design of the simple things. Why have such a good microscope with such a good screen and then completely slack at the menu interface? Honest to god, the menu and settings look like a Nokia cell phone design of 2001. Not even kidding. Hilariously outdated, clumsy, and nonsensical. Would be a very cheap fix to incorporate a quality interface that is simple and intuitive. The other thing that was terribly frustrating and one thing I just could not for the life of me get over was the ring light. First of all, the entire design of it is hideous. It has weak thin rubber “clamps” that just have to clamp down weakly on the base of the lens and hang on for dear life. How in the world did they not even design anything on the entire $300 microscope to hold that light in place properly? This is mind boggling to me. It is such an incredible oversight and just lazy. The ring light does not even attach like it belongs to the rest of the micropscope, it feels like it was crafted in a workshop by a 5th grader at summer camp. Just actually blows my mind, why they just didn’t incorporate a ring light into a $300 microscope. The most important thing for a microscope besides the lens quality is lighting. And this light is so bad, that I just cannot help but return it. Just brutally honest, but I am so puzzled and perplexed by how ungodly awful the design of the ring light was. They made it so complicated when it did not need to be at all, and so in the way. Takes it from a 5 star microscope review, to a 2 star. That is how bad the design of n the lighting is and how furious it made me trying to mess around with it.

It's pretty decent, but not what I expected. I'm using this to clean specimens for my macrophotography and I have to say that it's good, but not great. The only reason I would recommend this is if you haven't bought a microscope yet, or you have trouble with your vision. I give this a weak 4 stars.
