It's a lot of fun to play real instruments instead of sampled versions. The notes, as tested on a tuner, were a tiny bit flat, but in a mix (especially with other acoustic instruments), it fit in perfectly, you'd never know. Getting to play the real thing means all kinds of variations in mic placement and mallet choice, and this comes with both plastic and wooden mallets. I also like that the support structure is wood, not a cheap plastic. I find it works nicely sitting atop a keyboard stand. With the hinges in the support structure, it folds up nicely and doesn't take up that much room once it's in its case. But mostly, just hearing the vibrating tones of a real acoustic instrument is such a delight compared to the myriad of MIDI options I've been using.

Very cool compact folding and portable Xylophone. Mine came with two sets of mallets which produce a slightly different sound and also enable two to play at the same time. The Xylophone comes in a nice convenient carry case which is great for taking it wherever to play. The Xylophone folds in half along it's length and very simply folds open and lies flat. Something to keep in mind that it does require a bit of a flat surface to lie on, not a big deal though. Mine didn't have any legs as it seems some others had and thus not an issue with scratching surfaces, it lies directly on the frame. Pretty simple and easy.The sound is great and has a nice 'ring' to it when struck appropriately. Just a great fun musical instrument easy to make nice sounds on even with little experience, unlike some musical instruments. Great starter item thus IMHO. Everything as promised.A good deal. :)

I ordered this Xylophone for my daughter, since she loves music. She has been learning to play the piano, so I wanted to give her something else to try. Be careful when taking it out of the bag for the first time. It comes folded inside the bag, so when I lifted it out it unfolded and my finger got caught in the middle and was pinched. That was painful. So carefully lift it out of the bag but carry it to a table where you plan to use it before you unfold it. I wish it had come with a stand and a way to lock it in the open position once you set it up. It doesn't even have rubber feet on the bottom, so you need to be careful where you place it, since it could scratch the wood if you place it on your dining table. As far as the sound goes, I am pleased. It sounds just like I would expect a Xylophone to sound. My daughter loves it. Unfortunately we had to remove her computer from her desk in order to make room for this, which is another reason it would be helpful if it came with a stand.

While this xylophone is touted as being for beginners, it lacks a number of features that I now see on other similar units. The first issue is that it lacks any means to lock it into the open position one you take it out of the carrying case and unfold it. This makes it a little awkward to move around. Next issue is that it does not have any method of mounting to a stand or tripod, so it must be used on a flat surface. Finally, since it must be used on a flat surface, it should have feet on the bottom of the frame. Especially so because the hinge that holds the two halves of the frame together protrude from the bottom and the instrument is literally sitting on these and since they are made of metal, can easily scratch the surface it is sitting on.It is unfortunate that it has this number of issues, as otherwise the construction of the frame appears to be very good, and the sound is very pleasant. The notes are engraved directly on each bar of the xylophone and it looks very nice. At least the most troublesome problem can be easily rectified by picking up appropriate rubberized feet for it at a hardware store, but they really should have provided it as part of the instrument.

This Glockenspiel xylophone is excellent quality for a professional xylophone that's made for musicians and ametures who want to learn the proper instrumentation of the xylophone on a professional level instrument. This xylophone is not like a child's toy xylophone with the colored keys but is quality made with solid construction and with the notes embossed into the keys for easy learning and playing. This xylophone has an excellent tone and is tuned perfectly and is easy to maintain and tune when needed using the screws to tune method. This xylophone fits nicely in the lap and comes with both plastic and wooden mallets which create a different tonal value when struck by each. This xylophone is foldable to contain the sharp keys when needed or can be used as a whole to create beautiful tones and music. The xylophone comes with a quality carrying case as well. For an excellent quality professional style Glockenspiel Xylophone that is high quality for adults to learn and play the xylophone to its full potential, I absolutely recommend.
