Well, I have to admit I’m impressed. I’ve tried some made in Asia reeds, both tenor and alto, and it’s been a mixed bag to say the least. So my expectations were not running high when I got this batch of ten #3 tenor sax cane reeds. The results were something like astonishing as compared to what I thought I would most likely encounter.I’ve been playing the sax for decades and making music for essentially my whole life (which is getting to be a surprisingly long time). Many saxophones have gone through my hands and heaven only knows how many reeds. I still play some cane reeds but will confess I mostly prefer synthetic reeds and have for some time now. All that to say I have some experience with saxophone (and clarinet, and oboe) reeds. So short version: I played through all 10 of these reeds and found 5 of them to be readily playable and 2 of them to actually be good enough I would consider using them in a performance. In my experience, that is a phenomenal percentage of useable reeds from one box. I typically feel if I get three playable reeds and one pretty good one from a 10 pack then it is a decent batch. And of course who knows if this is just a fluke and will never work this way again or if this company is making a strong start at manufacturing some good cane saxophone reeds. This would seem to indicate some quality control both in terms of the sourced reed cane and the methodology of production. These reeds were notably more symmetrical than other Asian manufactured reeds I have tried with an overall stronger and denser feel. The vamp is a little thin with some tendency to “buzz” more than I like. But two of these reeds produced a full, rich tone with plenty of depth (the tone I like most for playing the blues).Bottom line; for the price these reeds are definitely worth a try. And when I was a student and years after that, the cost factor seriously mattered. I will most likely pick up another box just to see how consistent the quality is. If this box is anything like a reasonable sample, these reeds could have a bright future.I recommend them!Practice! Practice! Practice! But take time to have fun and just “be in” the music. Having a heart for music is every bit as important as practice!

I am used to finding a little more than half a box of reeds to be usable, so I was a bit surprised when the first 5 reeds I pulled out were decent enough for a good practice session or two. When I finally got to the last one of the box, there were only 2 of them that were unusable, and only 1 that was borderline. All in all, a worth while purchase.

My son is a beginner on the tenor sax and likes reeds rated at a 3. These, he says, seem much more difficult to play than a typical three. More like a 5. He promptly boxed them up and didn't think about them again.

My biggest issue with reeds that come from overseas is the cut and maybe the age. I included a few pics to illustrate the cut. It's like they're being cut on the wrong machine. Sometimes it's off-center to the right sometimes to the left but when it's perfectly centered. The heart of a reed should be something of an ellipse giving you a part of that ellipse at the edge of the vamp. Right there in the middle of the reed you should see a nice U-shape. However, reeds such as these rarely ever have that nice U-shape that let's you know the heart was cut with precision. As you can see in the pics it's either of center to the right or left and even the centered ones show that the heart was cut too large because there is no evidence of an ellipse. Some people call this edge on either side of the U-shape the shoulder, in the center is the heart. The heart is very important. Now some people it's not that big of a deal but then they go and buy the most expensive reed they can find, buy a box and find about two that play well. For me these reeds are great for student players and beginners. They sound just fine. You can pick one blindly and play on it just fine, especially if you're a beginner or a student. I would say even a pro that mainly plays in groups can play on these just fine. These are playable for marching band, concert band, and even jazz band for students and beginners. I do a lot of solo playing and I use different mouthpieces. I find that when one reed doesn't work on a particular MP, I try that reed on another mouthpiece and sometimes it plays very well. I will most likely use these reeds for practice. A really good player can make just about any reed work in the clutch. I would have no problem using these reeds in an emergency.

Very decent reeds for the value, especially for jazz and beginners.Box comes double hermetically sealed, each reed in its own plastic sleeve was issue free.Sounds as expected, maybe a little thin in the vamp but I like that as a jazz guy so classical players looking for deeper sax tones might take note these are a bit on the skinny side.
