Speed test Apple iMac 2019 Thunderbolt 3 Sequoia 15.3.2 -- Compare new ACASIS 80Gbps TB501 Pro vs 40Gbps TBU405 PRO read write IO -- I have three TBU405 PRO I purchased new on Amazon and love the speed and reliability I get off them through TB3 -- I bought the latest TBU405 PRO and ran AJA System test -- I used the same newer WD BLACK SN850X 2TB SSD NVMe 2 in both enclosures.See my photos:the older 40Gbps TBU405 PRO gave me the familiar 2593Mbs write and 2736MBs readthe new 80Gbps TB501 PRO gave me dismal 900Mbs write and 900MBs readConclusion:Unless you have Thunderbolt 5 hardware on a Mac computer -- stick with the TBU405 PRO -- I saw some vague reference to this Thunderbolt 3-4 disclaimer in the ACASIS product description but it wasn't conclusive -- hope this real world test answers the question for you -- TB3 (and probably TB4) run at 10 Gbps speeds on the Apple Macintosh Computer 2019 iMac I tested (just like the ACASIS TB501 Pro product description says). In other words:the new 80Gbps TB501 Pro is a Thunderbolt 5 ONLY enclosure if you expect full TB5 speeds and reliability -- it only delivers 10 Gbps speeds on TB3 and TB4 hardware. My three TBU405 PRO enclosures all get the crazy good speeds in my screenshot -- except for Samsung which is slower in the external enclosure, but the Samsung 970 EVO PLUS M2 SSD gets the crazy good speeds installed internally -- the WD BLUE and WD BLACK NVMe drives give me the best sustained speeds I've tested on macOS in these TBU405 PROs -- not sure how reliable the Western Digital SSD are in the long run, I do have the most confidence in the Samsung, but I only use them internally now as Samsung tech support say their NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD are for internal use only.Blackmagic Disk Speed Test app gave similar results

I get 6 Gbps average read and write. Very consistent. Although cashe is upto maker and none of today’s SSDs are any good at getting anything more than a peak hit.

I haven’t bench tested it yet, but has worked great as a Thunderbolt 5 SSD enclosure with a Samsung 990 Pro SSD. I’ve effectively added 4TB of storage to my Mac Studio without paying thousands. It’s almost perfectly silent for video editing and keeps the SSD reasonably cool (warm to touch). It has a very durable aluminum design and easy to install. Thunderbolt 5 is lightning fast and a great value. I hope they make a multiple drive enclosure soon.

Bought this after several research and reviews. Product as described and delivers. Can’t go wrong with Acasis products.

This ACASIS 80 Gbps m.2 NVMe enclosure is, in many ways, overbuilt and overkill. If you truly need and otherwise have the equipment (SSD and a computer with TB5) to take advantage of Thunderbolt 5 speeds, this is a quality case kit with everything you need. Otherwise, there are better options. The kit includes a heavy (and bulky) aluminum enclosure with a single-speed fan powered over the USB-C Thunderbolt connection, m.2 plastic screws, thermal pads for connecting the SSD to the case to dissipate heat, spacers for SSD form factors smaller than m.2 2280, and a Thunderbolt 5 cable (labelled as such). It's all great quality, as I'd expect from this price point. The fan is single-speed, but has both automatic and manual modes. According to the manual, it automatically kicks on at 55C. My test SSD never reached that high, but I was able to test the alternate manual mode which is activated by pressing and holding the fan button near the USB-C port.I unfortunately do not currently have a computer with Thunderbolt 5 capabilities; TB3 is the highest I can test and my desktop is limited to 10 Gbps. I was also using an older NVMe PCI 3.0 SSD which also conveniently tops out at 10 Gbps, so my testing was more about legacy compatibility than cutting edge performance. I can unequivocally say that this enclosure offers no advantages over a basic $30 SSD enclosure in the 10 Gbps speed range. It's speed measured effectively the same as my 10 Gbps enclosures with this equipment, which was in the 5-10 Gbps range but still well below the theoretical 10 Gbps maximum at 808 MB/s.In summation, while this is a premium case, you really need cutting edge gear for it to be worth a purchase. At time of review, this lists well over $200 CAD, or nearly 10X the price of average 10 Gbps enclosures, but all it really offers over those enclosures is more bulk, weight, a powered fan, and that much great price. In terms of actual speed performance, with older equipment, there is no improved push up to theoretical maximums.
