I had it installed in 30 seconds. Adhesive seems strong, if it isn't, I will attach a piece of wood to it and screw it to the window frame. Hope the clips last, otherwise, use clothes pins!!

Bought this item to block out sunlight and add privacy to my room. I am a disabled woman and hanging regular blinds was out of the question, so I purchased this vinyl black shade for the ease of installing. It arrived in good condition. My only battle with this shade was trimming it to fit the window. Beware; You're going to really need a tool knife or a cutting tool that can cut through the vinyl and plastic weight at the bottom of the shade. Unfortunately, I only had a kitchen knife and I was cutting and sawing for a good 15 minutes before getting the shade trimmed to fit properly. So, already worn out...I had to reach up over my head standing on a step stool and firmly apply and press the shade into place. Luckily, the adhesive is super powerful and it takes only 2 minutes or less and the shade is holding on very strong. You will have to carefully and patiently adjust some of the creases in the shade because they get pushed in or out while installing them. But they reshape nicely. The two clips that come with the shade are a sturdy hard clear plastic and they hold on to the shade when you need to let some light back in and the clips do not fall or lose their place. Overall, a very good product for simple privacy, sunblocking, at a good price for the value. I've used paper shades before and they work well too, but they don't last too long bc of the material. These are vinyl and the plastic is going to last I would say up to a year or two if they are used properly. Just be prepared & have the proper trimming tools to cut through the plastic safely.

I got these after reviewing many products to find a cheap and temporary solution to our windows. Just did a remodel, and still deciding on what to do for window covering and privacy. My windows are western exposure and faces my neighbor's windows, so I needed some light blocking. The blinds arrived on time and intact (well protected in giant amazon tube). The vinyl is more off white than white, and pretty thin, but not super fragile. I couldn't cut them with utility knife easily, but sharp scissors did the trick, just had to do 2-3 pleats at a time. There is a central pull to allow the shade to stop at any position. There are two strings running about 18 inches apart that pulls the bottom pleat up. (if your window is narrow than that, the shades won't work well for you). The shade has some sticky tape the top pleat, and fixed very easily. As I don't want to damage our window frame from super strong tape, I put a strip of painter's tape down, so removal would be easy. The shades stayed up very easily, and is much more pleasant looking than I expected. The vinyl is opaque, so privacy is complete. Light blocking isn't black out, but does make the room darker--enough for my kid to take naps. The still feel a bit cheap to touch, but very sturdy and well priced for temporary solution. I'm now going to buy some wider ones for my sliding door to block the western sun. Will update after a few months to see how they hold up.

I'm giving it 5 stars for price vs. value received (at under 10 bucks currently.) I unpacked and had it installed in less than 10 minutes. I was concerned the tape would not be sufficient to hold it up, but so far so good, it's very sticky. You could perhaps optionally add thumbtacks, a decorative wood strip or the like through the top to ensure it does not come down in any case. But it looks like the tape will stick to about anything.Once installed, I found it blocks sunlight effectively (see below) so I can see my computer monitor more clearly now. Quite simple to raise/lower using the center cord, and I mounted mine high enough that I can retract it completely above the window for maximum light when desired. I chose to have it overlap the window opening on the sides when lowered, rather than cutting it to fit within that opening, if you follow me. The shade measures exactly 36 inches wide (my window is about 34 inches wide so 1-inch overlap each side), and easily covers the entire window vertically, 48 inches tall (I estimate it could cover up to a 60-inch tall window). I cut the drawstring shorter, moving up the drawstring doohickies and tying a new knot so the cord doesn't hang down so far on my shorter window. It is plenty long. You should know this does not block 100% of "direct" sunlight (we have expensive so-called light-blocking curtains in another room that don't block 100% of direct sun either). In direct sun, the black lightens to a very dark shade of brown with some (very little) light penetrating. Second there is of course sunlight coming through the "pinholes" where the cord runs through the folded shade, and other light may get around at the edges of the shade at the folds. This is reasonable. One more good thing, no vinyl smell at all from this shade. Overall a very simple, inexpensive, reasonably attractive solution to blocking 95% of the light coming through a window and I'll probably buy a couple more.

From the reviews I was a little skeptical on how good these where going to be. If they were temporary or could be used as permanent. How much light they block. Or if they'd even hold up at all. They are thin vinyl but it's thick enough to block a decent amount of light. I took some pictures of my front window with a single 46" one I received before the 12 pack of 36" arrived a couple days later. You can kinda see the difference between metal mini blinds & these shades. The small side windows are always a little more bright because of the light bouncing between the narrow white walls of their frames so, I added a picture of all 3 replaced too. It's quite a big difference but it's NOT black out if you're looking for that. My house is considerably more dark than before. I have also noticed it's helping with keeping the house cooler. I also have the cheap paper black shades I bought at the same time. I used them to black out my bedrooms, putting them behind these shades. The difference in quality & sturdyness is HUGE! The paper ones do a great job at blocking light but are really cheaply made & would not hold up well at all.I had old custom metal mini blinds that would cost a fortune to replace since all my window's frames are old & not square or the same size from one to the other. Some are off by as much as 2 inches. These were pretty easy to cut to size & put up. I've had them up for about a month now & decided they're perfect as permanent shades.Even cutting one in half to cover my 9" side windows worked great. I just made sure not to cut the cord inside. After that I put a little rubber inside the cone end caps on the string so that I can actually still raise them if I want. The rubber gives enough grip to not let them slide down. The cord goes out thru the side instead of the bottom tho, since I didn't make a new hole for the cord yet on the bottom. For as often as I open them, it's fine. The ones I've put on my french doors have held up really well to my dog's tails bashing them. They can wrinkle up a little if you open them to fast but they are sturdy enough to just lower & do it again slower going right back into shape with putting them up and flattening them some. Good as new! The glue seems to be holding up just fine too. They are not a true white either. They have a blue tint to them when the sun hits them directly, but are a nice beige in indirect light. It's kinda strange but I have nothing white around them so it's not noticeable to me. If they were put up on a white wall.. it might be noticeable.Duplicate review on both the 12 pack & single I ordered together at the same time. Please ignore all the dirty furniture in the pictures. The sleeping English Mastiff in one of the pictures doesn't let my house stay clean long. :-)
