Just what I needed. I have a few of these from different brands. Some name brand, they are expensive and do the same thing, and then 3 like this. Whereas they are less expensive, they are not lacking in quality and are easier to stow in my laptop case/emergency server-saver bag. I often find myself needing to take data from old 3.5" and 2.5" spinners and this is the way to do it. I have seen the expensive, hot swap, drive copy machines that allow you to slap one in and take it out, but they are never portable, and they are always expensive. But this kit here is not. Great value for the money. Simply plug your USB end of choice (It comes with USB-A but has a USB-C adapter) into the device you are using to transfer with the drive attached to the other end and you are good to go. For the larger, 3.5" HDDs that will require some power to get spinning you are given a small power supply unit. Simply plug it in before you plug the USB into your device and you are golden. It'll handle any size HDD or SSD from very small laptop to large, enterprise spinners. This is great price to performance. I have a small stack of drives that I need to consolidate, and this is just the thing for it! Never lose data again!

This is pretty simple, which is its best feature, really. I have a lot of older hard drives I've collected across the years which need to be wiped of data before donating or recycling them, and this lets me just plug them in and leave them sitting on the desk until they're ready very easily without needing to bother opening up a spare computer case to attach them directly every single time. I liked that there are power & activity lights, though the blue being activity and red being power is backwards from what you'd expect, it helps to let you know the device is on and working. This did great over USB 3.0 and USB-C, giving steady data rates at the older physical hard drives' maximum and a decent 306MB/s with some SSDs. Over USB 2.0 obviously you get much slower speeds, because that port generation is more limited, but it still works if you aren't in any hurry. One thing I would say is that you should plan to use a cooling fan stand or point a fan at any 3.5" spinning drives you use with this for any length of time- without cooling they can get really hot! This did fine even after several hours of use clearing the drives, it never dropped out, so I was happy and I'd definitely recommend it- 5-stars!

I have this connected with an old 6TB HDD drive now that I'm using temporarily and don't want to get a proper enclosure for. It's working great - I've copied several TB back and forth now without any trouble or dropouts. I'm using the external power adapter and just regular USB-A connector (it does have a USB-A to C adapter too, for if you need that for a device without a USB-A port). For SSDs you may be able to get away without the external power (using bus power only, like a portable hard drive), but with a full-size 3.5in HDD that's doubtful, so I plugged it in just to be sure. It's about that easy - plug in the power and drive, then plug in the USB cable. My drive took a few seconds to spin up and then was recognized by Windows and worked as expected thereafter. You probably don't want to use this long-term, but that's because your drive will be exposed, not because this has any problems I've encountered.

I had a couple of older hard drives I wanted to pull archived data from, but didn't have a PC to mount the drives in anymore. This little kit came in handy as it only took a few minutes to hook everything up, plug into my MacBook and pull down the data. I even tried it with my Linux box and Windows machines and it worked flawlessly.Just make sure you follow the instructions and plug in your drive first, then power, followed by the USB. Data transfer speeds were fast, but that will also depend on your drive and port you're using. It was nice that it also came with a USB-A to USB-C adapter to make it more compatible with modern systems.

Works as advertised but it lacks safeguards to prevent damage to the device in case you un/plug it in the wrong order, which can cause a catastrophic failure of the device, just like I've seen happen with flashdisks. All data will be lost and the device will be broken, so make sure to follow the instructions!Connecting:1) attach SATA side of cable;2) plug in power supply both ends; and3) plug in USB.Disconnecting:1) Make sure that any programs accessing the drive are no longer doing so, as any active connections will prevent the disconnection;2) In the system tray (near the clock), click on the carat and select the icon that looks like a flashdisk;3) From the menu that opens, select "Eject [device name]" - make sure not to disconnect the wrong device;4) Once the OS tells you it's safe to disconnect, pull the USB cable out of the socket;5) Disconnect the power supply; and6) Disconnect the SATA cable.I tested it by playing a video and had no trouble. 3 stars because of the lack of electrical protection.
