Can't figure out why the area to put the screw into is raised 1/4 inch, which causes it not to lie flat. Very disappointed - this should be a 1, 2, 3 easy install, but because of the raised areas it is not. May end up returning it - might be able to get around it, but really shouldn't have to. Don't want to try to carve out a square hole so this item will lie flat. Dumb design

This door knocker is super heavy duty and works well. I used a grinder to grind down the two raised areas on the back so it would lay flat against door then I drilled two holes in the plate and used short wood screws to attach to door instead of drilling a hole clear through my door and having the nuts sticking out on the inside.

This is pretty and I am happy with the look from the outside. However, I didn't realize that it screws in all the way through the door so the screws show on the inside. The screws are brass (?) covered so not just screws poking out, but still not what I was expecting. Also, the screws were too long and they had to be shortened to work for my door.

This door knocker is absolutely gorgeous. It is heavy cast iron with beautiful detailing. I had it professionally installed, so I cannot address “ease of installation.” It was easy for me! It came a day earlier than expected. I would highly recommend it for a traditional style home. It looks great on my mahogany stained door.i

This is shiny metal painted black. I know this because the black paint was chipping off before I even opened the box. Also, there would be no good way to mount this, as you are supposed to put two giant ugly bolts through your door, and even so the holes to screw the bolts in protruded about 1/4 inch so it would not be flush against the door. Very disappointing. I returned it.
