As others have said, this is pretty much mandatory if you're working on an applicable Toyota model. I fought and fought, using every trick I knew and just could not get the original to let go, and finally just cut a slit into it and pried it open with a screwdriver. Even then it still resisted letting go... Now, admittedly, this is a vehicle that has 300k+ miles and has been driving on Minnesota roads for almost all of its miles - but this is a pretty common problem and just not worth the time to try any other route. (Eg. cutting the CV shaft) IMO, a bearing carrier should just come with a new shaft from the get go! Once I had the new part, I had everything back together and road tested in less than an hour. (Pro tip. Make certain and grind all the rust off between the hub, the brake rotor, and the wheel. Your brakes will last longer!)Good luck out there!

Worked like a charm on a 2006 Solara V6.

I had an axle on a 05 Camry absolutely snap but I couldn’t slide it out due to many many years of rust around the bearing so in defeat I took a dremel with a metal cut off to it and cut it in half. I had already ordered this piece at that point and when it arrived it fit like a dream. Doing the job sucked but the installation was simple, as this piece came exactly how it said it would

What did the buckle it is when you have to deal with the passenger side axle on a Toyota....This carrier bearing housing is a must because the majority of the time when you're trying to remove the axle. The bearing is going to be completely seized in the housing.I had to take a sawzall and cut the axle in half in order to unbolt the bracket from the car. Then I had to use a 20-ton press to press out the bearing just to see if it would work. I'm very glad that I bought this carrier bearing housing because I didn't have to mess with the old one.I'll be honest and say I normally buy only OEM parts and dorman has always been cheap in my opinion. But when comparing both the OEM and this their identical. The exception is this is actually much cheaper than the OEM!So if you have a Toyota pick one of these up it might save your day or at least many hours..
