After reviewing a couple of other spools of supposedly 14 gauge wire that had so little copper in them, I was surprised it would conduct electricity at all, it was nice to see appropriate sized wire. This seems to have decent performance and the correct dimensions for 14 gauge. It’s also very affordably priced.Part of that is because his aluminum rather than copper and so I would be a little bit cautious about the voltage I ran through it, but this is excellent for speaker wire and low voltage applications for sure. The copper cladding is very substantial, and there is plenty of conductor inside of the insulation, although there seem to be a little bit less on the yellow side because it has an extra layer of insulation to give it that yellow color. So it’s roughly 30 strands on the clear side and 20 on the yellow side. Very odd.Even though this is 14 gauge, I would maybe not use it for 12 V applications just maybe 8 volt or lower. I have to do some more testing but it’s clearly well-made. Decent enough wire. I’m not sure about the asymmetry though, I’m actually gonna do a little research about that. For speaker wire applications this stuff is fantastic and very affordable. And my guess is since electrons flow from negative to positive, the positive return terminal requires fewer electrons, and therefore the conductor can be smaller in diameter.
