This device works great with my 27” Dell G2725D monitor, operating at 2560 x 1440 at 120 Hz. Initially the monitor complained that there was no signal, but when I pressed the EDID Mode Button on this device for 3 seconds, it ‘learned’ the monitors specifications and automatically switched to the 2560 x 1440 resolution. When I originally set up the new Dell monitor on my 3-monitor system, all Windows applications that were displayed on the new monitor were automatically MOVED to a different monitor when I shut the monitor off! This was never a problem with my other 2 (older) Dell monitors! I looked for a solution in Windows itself and also with my Nvidia video card (GTX 1050 Ti).I eventually concluded that I needed an HDMI EDID emulator that fools the computer into thinking that the monitor is always connected. There are many emulators out there but could only find this one that has a button to copy the EDID configuration form the monitor so that monitor-specific resolutions can be supported. It’s amazing to me that monitor manufacturers cannot have such a feature built into all their monitors, or for related options to be available in Windows or video cards/adapters. How hard could it be to implement an option to either make the monitor part of a permanent setup, or tell Windows to NOT move the applications? I supposed they must have a good reason for this.

Pros: When plugged in and initialized with another device this little dongle does a decent job convincing the video card that a monitor is plugged in.Cons: I had difficulty getting this device to work. Due to low tolerances it was difficult to press the button to cycle the modes available.Subjectively this device was a little disappointing. I've used similar 'dummy' hdmi connecters in the past and they were a simple plug and play. This one took some finessing to get working.

Many computers don’t react well when displays are connected and disconnected. The change in connection status will cause many operating systems to reorganize the placement of windows on the desktop. At a really simple level this display emulator can copy the Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) from a monitor and present it to a computer even if the actual monitor is disconnected. This prevents the windows from being rearranged. When the real display is reconnected sometime later, the windows are where you left them.Operation is very simple. Plug the monitor into the emulator and then plug into the computer. The emulator will operate in passthrough mode and the monitors EDID info will be sent to the computer. Press the button on the emulator for a couple of seconds and the emulator will copy the EDID info from the monitor. You can then unplug the monitor and the emulator will tell the computer that the monitor is still connected. Or you can unplug the emulator, disconnect it from the monitor and then reconnect it to a computer and the emulator will identify itself as though it is the monitor that the EDID info was copied from. The emulator has a pair of built-in configurations. An internal configuration that is always available and a default external configuration that is replaced when the data from a display is copied into the emulator. The internal setting is most useful when you are planning to operate in so called headless mode without a display attached. The internal setting will be replaced by the EDID data copied from a display that you want to mimic. The built-in internal setting is designed to tell the computer that a 4K display is connected. As indicated in the product listing 8K is not supported. This is a handy little unit for dealing with annoying display situations. If you have a multiple monitor setup you will need one for each monitor. The unit has one shortcoming. The button used to copy monitor data is on the bottom when plugged into most HDMI inputs. It would be more convenient to have the button on the top of the unit.

I'm positive many are reading this review because of the exact issue i'm about to mention here. I had handshake issues with my HTPC setup... if i connect the PC to AVR to TV i get no video only audio. I could connect HDMI directly to TV no problem but due to arc limitation i can only get PCM2.0, you need eARC to get PCM 5.1+ via eARC and buying a whole new AVR with eARC isn't cheap. The EDID handshake was what i suspected was the issue. So i tried this product and BAM! I now get picture and 5.1 PCM audio at 192k! I simply pulled the HDMI connection from the LG TV while hot and connected the HDMI from the AVR to the back of the emulator, held the button down for a few seconds and it turned green, i then plugged it back into the back of the TV and rebooted my PC. When the video feed appeared it was in 1080P, I simply went into display settings in the PC and set the display to 4k. I can verify that this item works as advertised. I am currently running at 4k@60hz 4:4:4. I'd rather have high fidelity surround sound over 60hz more refresh rate and save $600 bucks on a new AVR. My handshake issues are no more!
