When I first saw this I wondered why on earth anyone would pay for a free government publication (Chart # 1) But this is so much more (read the description in the product, you don't need me to reiterate that). The information is clearly presented and explained, Chart # 1 is annotated and explained too. It's fantastic for anyone who hasn't learned every symbol by heart already--and that's everyone, I suspect!)Notably, the author explains the limitations of surveying and charting, that's really valuable information (witness the wrecks that have occurred when folks failed to understand these--there are images and discussions of several of them as salutary reminders of the importance).Highly recommend this publication.

Absolutely wonderful book. Many reviewers are serious sailors and maritime navigators. Not me. Just a Casco Bay Maine run-a-bout type of guy. The first 80 pages outline chart-making concepts, with discussions on horizontal and vertical chart accuracy were by far the most interesting for me. True insightful on the basis of chart construction and limits of chart accuracy. As a surgeon who spends hours looking at CT and MRI scans all the same logic applies.The rest of the book is an introduction to the common chart symbology for maritime standards.

Good book to learn. Very detailed information. Some times, too much details make me get lost but nothing bad. It’s better to have more details than needed over missing details.Very satisfied
