I have several different sets of thread checkers, all the others are on cables.This set is the most used, it is compact and light weight, seems accurate, and I have found that having the checkers mounted in foam with clear markings on the foam and on the individual checker is very convenient and easier to use than thread checkers strung on a cable. Removing the other thread checkers from their cable would just result in a jumbled bag of harder to use thread checkers, so to my surprise the carrying case is an important feature. If one really likes to have the cable, one is included in the set.Magnetic testing shows the checkers vary in their magnetic attraction, a couple are suspiciously strongly attracted to magnets, perhaps just a very poor grade of stainless. Others are what one would expect for 400 or better stainless grades.Overall, this is currently my goto set for testing nuts and bolts at a machine while working on the machine. The threaded checkers on cables are mostly used for nuts and bolts that are outside the range of this set, or if this boxed set isn't immediately available.

The gauges are made from machined stainless steel, are durable and the threads are smooth and easy to work with. The laser etching is easier to read on the black metric set, but both are readable and should last. I also like the case which also has printed labeling and is well made. Very happy with these and used them the day they arrived, nice addition to any shop.

First off, the way the kit is organized makes using and storing the thread check bits easy. The thread size is also very easy to read on each bit, as it is marked in gold lettering over black on the metric bits, and black over silver on the SAE bits. In the photo, I used it to check the thread on a battery terminal lug screw, so I could spec and order a longer nut, to make it easier to grab with a wrench. The thread check bit worked perfectly!

I use this for the first time today instead of guessing …it worked really well and getting the pitch off the m12 1.5 vs 1.75Nice fit and finish and machine work

Easy to use. Accurate measurements. You can test tapped holes or loose screws.
