I bought this for my 15-year-old daughter and asked her if she liked it. She said "Yeah I like it" which means it is really great. :) I thought it was very sturdy and can weather the abuse of being opened flat and written in till it is full.

I liked the weight of it. The cover felt good. It felt "luxurious" When you compare it to the ones you get from Walmart. The issue is, it bleeds through. Personally, I need a notebook that has more weight to withstand heavier marker and pen use.

UPDATE:First Image - BeforeLast Image- After 1 yearIts officially been 1 year since I started creative journaling in this. Mind you, the amount of paint, glue, paper, etc this book has gone through has been INSANE, and the first bit section of pages have separated from the spine, i am still unbelievably impressed by the durability of this journal and the quality of paper.I NEVER write reviews for products on Amazon, so this probably says a lot.I recently started getting into creative/art journaling as a way to process my thoughts and emotions. This journal so far has been absolutely amazing for this project. The paper is fantastic and holds up extremely well with gouache paints, tacky glue, and numerous spreads utilizing heavier cardstock, lace, fabric, flowers, etc. There *can* be a little bleed-through from the back of the page if you use very wet markers or ink, but otherwise fantastic. The spine of this journal is holding up well with the thick pages filled with artwork and things. This journal has two bookmark ribbons and a very nice fold-out pocket in the back for storing little notes and things too. I highly recommend this journal and I plan on buying more of these in the future. (Bonus is its thicc. Lots of pages.)Hope this helps!Update: I am now well over half way through this journal. I've been taking gouache paints to the pages and it has been holding up extremely well. With the amount of content being glued or taped into this journal at this point, the first few binded pages are pulling loose a bit from the string that keep the paper in check at the spine, but the thing is holding strong!

2024 edit from 4 stars to 3. The journal I got this year (gray blue) has different paper that seems to accept much more pigment as all my markers (artist loft and tombow) are showing up darker and ghosting on the back of the page substantially more. Obviously can’t know stuff like this until using it so it’s very frustrating that the paper seems lower quality than the last 3 years I’ve used this brand. See pics for 2023 (top) vs 2024 (bottom) comparison. I am not sure if I will look for an alternative or keep using this one but I’m quite disappointed in the change.——A year ago I went on the hunt for a bullet journal large enough to hold an entire year (220+ pages). I knew I wanted at least 100 gsm and ideally 120, but turns out almost nobody makes something like that except RETTACY. (and now apparently EMSHOI*)TL;DR- I am planning to buy another one for 2022, but I will carefully inspect the binding upon receiving it to ensure the signatures look very solidly glued togetherPROS:- A5 size is nice for carrying around and fitting in a bag, but still gives plenty of space (40x27 squares per page)- black cover still looks brand new after a year of daily use and the leather feels lovely- I didn't think I wanted a hardcover book, but I have found I really like it- two ribbons for place-markers- 256 pages (some being perforated isn't something I need, but you may like it)- no pre-printed pages (other than the very front owner details) for full flexibility- rear pocket for stencils or stickers- sturdy elastic closure and pen loop- I only had a couple of pens bleed through (picked up the wrong sharpie by accident) and very minimal ghosting. enough that you can trace previous pages if you want, but not enough to be distracting (see below for specifics)- so many pages!!- paper is not super stark white, which is pleasant for looking at- paper has a good pen feel for writing on- pencil erases easily- dots are a pleasant medium grayCONS:- no page numbers- a month or so in my journal split between the perforated signature (set of pages) and the non-perforated ones. I expect this was a flaw in my specific journal but it was very disappoint. I tried glueing them together but it didn't last (this is why only 4 stars). I am sure they would've done a return, but I already had nearly two months worth of work into it (including setting up the yearly pages) and didn't want to start over. Moderate annoyance, often needed another small journal/book to put behind the right-hand pages (while writing) for the last 30% of the journal especially.PEN REVIEW- OHTO Rays: I use this for my main writing and it works beautifully. Only takes a second to dry, minimal ghosting- Micron 005: I use this for finer notes, headers, and lines. writes beautifully, no ghosting- Mildliners: I mostly use these for headline backgrounds. I only have a few (medium/light) colors but no bleeding and have not noticed any ghosting- PlayColor DOT: I use these for labels and color coding. The darker colors sometimes bleed on the dot side if you are not quick or don't let it try before doing another layer. Some ghosting but they are really fun so I don't mind. No bleeding/ghosting when using the pen side, just the dot side.- Artist Loft Watercolor Dual Tip Marker: I use these for layouts and doodles. they occasionally bleed but usually when I've done multiple layers of color. A little bit of ghosting, especially on darker colors, but not too badly. I will likely invest in some higher quality markers at some point (these are very entry level but they were also on a very good sale)*https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08PNSKWH9/ref=twister_B08PPDKQWH?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

Edit againYou know how they say you don’t miss something until you’ve had it? I bought a similar journal at Walmart. Not nearly as nice, no pen loop and the paper doesn’t compare. What it does have though that I fell in love with is an index and page numbers already done.If only this Rettacy dot grid journal had an index and page numbers. Their lined journals do. I am missing the pen loop and the wicked strong paper though.EditThis thing is a beast. There's only one pen I've found that bleeds, not much ghosting if any. It takes pencil well, and I've been using/abusing it for four months. The cover is still in great shape. I can hardly get over how well the cover is doing. Except where I've written on it it's like new! Even the elastic has lasted. A plea to the makers... please don't change a thing.I love this journal. The best part is the paper weight while being a dot grid journal. I can use my favorite pens again! I also like how many pages, the pocket in the back... I could go on.I'm not crazy about the cover. It feels great in your hands, it's just that I tend to be rough on things and am not sure if it will hold up to my abuse. Only time will tell I suppose. The dots are great! They're not so light that you can barely see them and they aren't dark enough to overwhelm the page. It's helping to make bullet journaling fun again.I'll buy it again and again as long as it stays as good as it is.
