I know this has several bad reviews, but I found the 8 tb drive to be fast and reliable. I have used SanDisk drives for years and never had any problems with them.I have seen some of the benchmarks for this drive, but here in the real world, I wanted to see how fast it can transfer real data. I have a 2 tb NVMe hard drive in my laptop with a folder that has 353 gb of data. This was mostly images, full websites, large zip files, PDFs, etc. The average file size was 600 mb.So, I started a file copy using ‘robocopy’ (DOS) and it took 1 hour and 26 minutes to do the full transfer. I used the USB-c port on my laptop, not the USB-a port.Hopefully you can use this test of mine to determine the real-world speed you will get.See image for more detail.

When the SSD arrived, I was surprised by how small and light-weight it is. Using it with my Mac was quite simple and straightforward. (GUID partition map, APFS Volume) But for the first few days, it was trouble. I came up to my Mac every day to find that my overnight backup of the device had failed and it had been removed from the system without being properly unmounted. Looking at the various causes of this, none of them made any sense. I was using the 6-inch USB-C/USB-C cable that came in the box. I tried moving the drive to a direct Mac port from the port on a dock that I had preferred to use. And yet, the SSD kept failing. As a sort of last-ditch effort before returning the unit, I grabbed one of my newest / best USB-C/USB-C cables and hooked the SSD up with it (instead of the included cable). Now, it has been several days with no problems at all, so I am pointing at the included cable and thinking that it was at fault for the early troubles. I now have a short USB-C/Thunderbolt-3/4/5 cable on order and hope to migrate the SSD back over to the dock port I'd planned. (Intending to use it as a "permanent" storage device, though with the small size/weight it would be great as a portable device. So, 4 stars. Device: 5 stars. Included Cable: 0 stars. (That cable's going into the electronics recycle.)

Backing up 2.5 TB HD the first time took 45 minutes instead of 5+ hours. The high transfer speed (and small size) means you use the drive more often bc it's far more convenient, and that (along with the time savings) makes this worth it. However, it's way over priced. But bc competition is slow they can charge $500+.

This is SSD is insanely fast provided you connect it using a USB-C cable and is very compact for an 8TB capacity it's insane! It is very reliable coming from a well known brand such as SanDisk.
