ATTENTION !! Il y a des différences à la version Française(DVD) ! Notamment une différence dans la voix du doublage de L.Dicapio. Vraiment dommage..je vais le donner et me contenter pour l'instant de la version DVD.

I had bought a copy of this movie at least two decades ago on DVD. As part of my upgrade of my DVD collection to blu-ray, this movie was originally scheduled to be released on blu-ray in Ireland/UK around 2006 and I (foolishly) traded in my DVD version. . .and then it was never released on blu-ray. . .until I stumbled upon this Spanish release version last year. And I was keen to bring this movie back into my collection. For anybody interested, i'm based in Dublin, Ireland and this is a Region B copy of the movie. While the cover is in Spanish, and the menu, too, the movie plays in English (no dubbing) and the option to turn the subtitles off is effortless. The movie itself. . .we've likely seen it at some point; Leo DiCaprio coming off the over-whelming success of Titanic, turned to this more "low-key" affair of an Alex Garland adaptation, confidently directed by Danny Boyle on site in sun-soaked Thailand. DiCaprio embraces the character and plays him with an optimism of hope, and teenage frustration at what life can offer. And under-pinned by a solid supporting cast including the fantastic Tilda Swindon, Robert Carlyle and an atmospheric and uplifting song by All Saints. Now, the quality of the movie. It's. . .okay. The transfer is not amazing, there is some grain and I expected the colours to pop more, and take advantage of the on site locations used for shooting. The film itself would get a solid 4 stars, but i've deducted one for the overall quality presented on blu-ray. Still, didn't really bother me. I was just happy to finally own a copy on blu-ray. That is probably the film's only downfall. Would love to see an improved transfer, maybe in another 20 years we can get this on 4K?
